SAAHSP - Professional Body for the Skin, Body & Nail Care Industry

A  professional association (also called a professional body, professional organization, or professional society) is usually a non profit organization seeking to further a particular profession, the interests of individuals engaged in that profession, and the public interest.

 

The SAAHSP Professional Body will be driven towards achieving quality education and training, regulate industry standards to our code of ethics in the Skin, Body & Nail Care industry.  The activities involved in such an exercise are guided by a Quality Management System.

 

SAAHSP was awarded Professional Body Status by SAQA (South African Quality Assurance Body on the 19th March 2013.

DESIGNATIONS

 

Nail technologist (NtHS)

A Nail Technologist (NtHS) is a practicing professional who applies artificial nails and provides nail and nail care therapy on the hands and feet.   NtHS often specialize in one or more types of nail enhancements such as Gel, Silk, Fibre, Acrylic and Nail art, depending on product specific training.

Beauty Technologist (BtHS)

A Beauty Technologist (BtHS) is a practicing professional who applies basic skincare, hand and foot treatments with nail treatments, hair removal and make-up applications and a basic back and neck massage and back treatment.

Beauty Therapist (BHS)

A Beauty Therapist (BHS) is a practicing professional who applies complete skincare and body treatments including massage.  This requires two years of training.

Somatologist (SomHS)

A Somatologist (SomHS) is a practicing professional who is focusing on the scientific study of the human body  including anatomy and physiology, physics, chemistry, biology, and botany. 

This requires 3 years of training.

Advanced Aesthetic Therapist (ATHS)

An Advanced Aesthetic Therapist (ATHS) have engaged in further studies and achieved an Advanced Diploma or Degree qualification.  They have extensive training in skin anatomy and physiology, skin conditions, cosmetic chemistry and science and are trained to analyse and treat skin and body conditions through a variety of advanced techniques. They typically work in a medical setting such as Medi Spas, Skin Rejuvenation Clinics and Medical Aesthetic practices. Working alongside doctors specialising in Cosmetic Surgical and/or non-surgical treatments, they have advanced training in laser, IPL, skin peels, photo rejuvenation, and micro needling

SAAHSP was registered as an QAP (Quality Assurance Partner) for QCTO (Quality Council for Trades and Occupations) on the 19th March 2013.
